COMMUNITY SERVICE: Are you interested in volunteering at Woodrock for your 10 hours of School Community Service?
Woodrock Animal Rescue has proudly developed a Woodrock community service initiative, to support the animal loving school learners to achieve their school required community service hours.
Woodrock Animal Rescue community service initiative includes the following to achieve the 10 hours:
Learners need to APPLY to take part as we can only accommodate a maximum of 10 learners for school community service per month. (We need a minimum of 5 learners to run the programme for a month, else it will be carried over to the next month.)

- Minimum four hour research and awareness project to be completed beforehand.
- Six hours supervised volunteering at Woodrock Animal Rescue on the last Saturday of a month. (8am to 2pm)
Learners need to APPLY to take part as we can only accommodate a maximum of 10 learners for school community service per month. (We need a minimum of 5 learners to run the programme for a month, else it will be carried over to the next month.)

What is expected of me for Woodrock Community Service?
WHAT IS EXPECTED OF ME FOR WOODROCK COMMUNITY SERVICE?
If you application is accepted, then the following needs to be done:
Step 1: Research and Awareness Project
Read up on Woodrock Animal Rescue and understand what we are about, our mission and purpose.
Complete a written project answering the following questions:
- Research: Write a two page essay on the importance of sterilization in dogs and cats.
- Awareness: Speak to your friends/family/community and explain to them the importance of sterilization. Write a page report on who you spoke to and whether you were successful in educating them. What were their responses and what did you learn ?
- Action: What does #actanonverba mean and give two examples.
- Commitment: How do you plan to make a valuable contribution to Woodrock Animal Rescue after your mandatory community service hours are completed? Below are some suggestions:
- Hold a cake sale (or an organised event as a group) to raise money for our cause.
- Drive an SMS campaign in your community promoting our SMS donation line.
- Request donations to Woodrock Animal Rescue on lieu of birthday gifts.
- Encourage your family to sign up for a Myschoolmyplanet card in favour of Woodrock Animal Rescue.
- Have an awareness table outside Woodworths and encourage people to sign up for a Myschoolmyplanet card in favour of Woodrock Animal Rescue
- Ask friends and family to support our cause by signing up for our newsletter.
- Apply to become a Woodrock Warrior Volunteer.
- Adopt a dog/cat from Woodrock Animal Rescue
Step 2: Six Hours Supervised Volunteering at Woodrock Animal Rescue
Attend the six hours Community Service Day on the last Saturday of the month. (8am to 2pm) at Woodrock Animal Rescue. Please bring along your written project and hand it in when you arrive. No written project - no community service hours!
Step 3: Community Service Completion Letter
Woodrock Animal Rescue will provide you with a letter confirming that you have completed your 10 hour of community service.
NOTE: Each year Woodrock will select the best written projects and the learners will receive a special certificate and prize.
How do I apply to take part?
To APPLY to do your school community service hours with Woodrock Animal Rescue, please download and complete the attached form. Email the completed form to [email protected] We will communicate if you have been accepted (and for which month) within 3 days of receiving your application.
